Atkinsons
Founded by James Atkinson in 1799, Atkinsons perfumery at 44 Gerrard Street quickly became a staple of elegant London society who were daring enough to pass the real-life growly bear at the doors of the establishment! “A marvellous perfume shop with the most terrifying bear!” Early customers included Beau Brummell, Admiral Nelson and the Duke of Wellington, and the fragrance house went on to become the official perfumer to King George IV’s Royal Court in 1826. Now, after 200 years of hibernation, Atkinsons and its grizzly mascot have awoken refreshed and revived with a collection of exquisite perfumes and home fragrances affectionately inspired by the snobbery and eccentricity of British society. These bold and irresistible collections have been crafted from the most lavish ingredients with the aim to recover the ostentatiousness and peculiarity of James Atkinson’s early visions. As Beau Brummell once said, “True style never goes out of fashion. You simply cannot keep a good bear down."
